I am Sharon Kurtz, and I wear many hats in life, but the ones I cherish the most are those of a writer, traveler, observer, and storyteller. Well, that and being Nana to granddaughter Violet.
Based in the vibrant city of Austin, Texas, I share my home with my loving husband and our two furry companions, our dogs. Together, we call this corner of the world our own. Still, I’m always ready to embark on new adventures and explore the vast and beautiful landscapes our planet has to offer.
My greatest blessings come in the form of two grown sons, a wonderful daughter-in-law, and a precious new granddaughter. They remind me of the importance of family and love, values that shape my journey through life.
My passion for travel was ignited at the tender age of 12 when I embarked on a train journey with my dad to the World’s Fair in Montreal, Canada, back in 1967. The experience was nothing short of transformative. In a world where people spoke a different language, ate strange food, and everything seemed so distinct from my small hometown in Ohio, my horizons expanded, and I was forever changed. Since that day, I’ve been captivated by the thrill of exploring new places and cultures.
When I’m not on a trip, I’m busy planning or researching the next one, and my bag is always packed, ready for the next great adventure. It’s a feeling of anticipation that never gets old.
My passion for travel extends beyond the physical journey. I explore cultures and savor flavors both at home and across the globe. This has opened my heart to new experiences, cultures, and people with diverse perspectives. I want to bridge the gap between cultures, one story at a time.
My travel articles do more than just showcase the beauty and attractions of each place; they delve into the local culture, traditions, and hidden gems that make every destination extraordinary. My writing style aims to be immersive and insightful, capturing the essence of each place I visit and taking readers along with me on my adventures.
In addition to being a travel writer, I’m proud to be an award-winning photographer. Capturing the world’s beauty through a lens is a true joy.
I also have the honor of writing a monthly travel column for Luster.net, a community and platform for retired career women who are not old, not done, and still very cool. A am a member of professional travel writing organizations, SATW – the Society of American Travel Writers, and IFWTWA – International Food, Wine, Travel Writers Association.
